[5] Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. [6] Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. [7] How precious is your steadfast love, O God! [10] Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart! - Psa 36:5-10 ESVDavid writes with such imagery. Love extending to the heavens. Faithfulness stretching to the clouds! Righteousness like mountains. Judgments as deep as the sea. Chicks nestling in the safety of their mother's wings. Drinking from the river of delights also known as the fountain of LIFE.
David describes God and His character in terms we can relate to. We can look up and imagine the distance from the ground to the heavens and are reminded of the vastness of God's faithfulness. We can gaze west at the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains that are unmovable and meditate on the immutability of the character of God. I could go on.
Reading the imagery in the Psalms we can allow our minds to not only contemplate the character of God as it relates to the world, but as it impacts us personally and individually.
What magnificent images David could evoke. This psalm takes on another level of beauty, at least for me, when I remember that it was written first as a song and secondly as a piece of poetry. What a remarkable man David was!
