A Precious Cornerstone - Isaiah 23-28

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 'Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: Whoever believes will not be in haste.' - Isaiah 28:16

The people of Judah had embraced a lie; they found their refuge in falsehood. They deemed themselves invincible to evil,  untouchable even by death. God was not a necessary factor in their daily lives; they seemed to be getting along just fine without Him. They were destined for destruction, and they refused to believe it. God's response to His wayward people offered hope -- they didn't have to make it through life on their own. Though Judah refused to turn to God and ask, He provided an answer to their pending destruction. He promised Judah He would create the ultimate refuge through Jesus Christ, and He would destroy the lies to which they cling

Without Christ we are heading for a cliff - we will be destroyed. Without Him we are racing in circles of everyday life - believing a lie. Without Him we lack the precious knowledge we don't have to bear it all. God continues to extend this same Refuge to all who will choose to believe. It's all here; we can accept the promise at face value. The promise is backed up by a promise! God has promised us the ultimate Cornerstone on which to build our lives. He has promised us this Cornerstone will not fail; we can believe and never be ashamed (Romans 9:33, 10:11). No matter what life throws at us, we can be assured before God and man we have a hope that stands the test of time. We have a Refuge that will never fail. In architecture, the cornerstone in any building is key to its stability; it bears the weight and stress of the entire structure. Jesus Christ is our foundation; He is our Cornerstone. He bears the weight and stress of our lives.

Precious cornerstone, sure foundation
You are faithful to the end
We are waiting, on You, Jesus
We believe You're all to us

Only Son of God sent from Heaven
Hope and mercy at the cross
You are everything, You're the Promise
Jesus, You are all to us

Let the glory of Your name be the passion of the Church
Let the righteousness of God be a holy flame that burns
Let the saving love of Christ be the measure of our lives
We believe You're all to us

"as it is written, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." - Romans 9:33

"For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." - Romans 10:11
