Psalms 9-11
Reading through chapters 9, 10, and 11 is a bit like riding a roller coaster with its peaks and troughs. As David considers the wonderful deeds of God his words rise in praise. As he considers the deceit and oppression of the wicked his words seem to drain to the bottom.David asks a question with serious implications.
“if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”The response clearly reminds us of God's sovereignty.
(Psalm 11:3 ESV)
The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.He is above all; He is unable to be challenged. Though we can spin out on the very real woes of our lives our spirits can always be lifted when we look to God’s unwavering authority over all.
(Psalm 11:4 ESV)
Thanks for another thought-provoking post! Do you feel that Psalm 11 answers the question (perhaps in verse 7) of how we are to respond to trials beyond simply acknowledging God's supremacy, or is that as far as David goes here?
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I am struck by the first phrase of verse five, "The Lord tests the righteous". My initial response is that I'm not sure I like that. Yet, His tests are for my good, are they not? To come through a test by His grace is to come forth as gold. What better delight in this life then to know He is yours and you are His?
