Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
Proverbs 28:26
Solomon gives a truth that applies to all aspects of life. It is a life principle revealing our confidence -- Either we are trusting in ourselves to obtain through our own efforts or we are resting in the wisdom only God can provide to show the path we are to take. Someone who works out life with his own natural thinking will only be put to shame. According to the dictionary definition, a fool is, "a person who lacks judgment or sense." This foolish person will always be deceived or in the end be rejected by God.
The opposite end of the spectrum is the person who walks in wisdom. According to the dictionary, wisdom is, "knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgement as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight." This is someone who is walking in the right direction, and who understands that everything is happening as God directs. Solomon did not say what he would be delivered from, but gave a broad definition. He would be delivered from everything. It is a truth that pervades every aspect of life. We live our life, not according to our own thinking, but allow God's word to direct our affairs. He is the One offering input to us through the Word. It is a lifestyle that says I will get my input from the only One who shows me truth, God.
